World's Best Crepes

I walked Blue around the block and he actually walked most of the way. We were going for a walk without him, but he followed us and realised our plans so we took him. He is getting much better walking, but freaked out when a fire engine went past with its siren blasting. We are exposing him to daily noises and activities as part of his socialisation.

We had just crossed the road at the end of our street when an idiot hooned around the corner at great speed with accompanying loud noise. Initially I was worried he was going to drive straight into the river, but he turned at the last second. He must have been doing 80 to 100kph. A fisherman by the water thought he was going to either hit him or collect his car. Miraculously neither of these things happened. If he had reached us 30 seconds earlier it might have been a different story as Blue was slowly walking across the road. I noted the registration number and called the police. Unusually the phone was answered and I gave all the details, but they still sent an electronic form for me to fill out.

On our way back along the same road there was a dog loose with no owner around. I handed Blue to Anita who headed home while I tried to find the dog's owner. I kept telling him to "go home" and followed him. Another dog was sitting outside a house and they clearly belonged together. I tried a few houses before finding someone at home in the street to ask about the dogs and a woman accompanied me when we tried the gate which was not locked and both dogs went inside. I then bumped into a woman who used to live nextdoor to us. She was walking for exercise after recovering from shingles. She noted that unusually I was walking without a dog.

The fisherman was still there so I told him I had reported the hoon to the police. He and a couple of other people had been watching a dugong. Having never seen one before I stayed and saw it put its snout out of the water for air. Dugongs are vegetarian mammals and it was foraging among the seagrass in the river. I downloaded a photo of a dugong from the internet and suspect all I saw was a small part of its body.

We had agreed to get some window cleaning jobs done before our cleaner arrived to makeover the rest of our house. Anita had to help me lift a couple of windows out of their tracks so the outsides could be cleaned - the security screens prevent these windows from being cleaned from the outside. I used to lift them out by myself but these days might struggle with the weight.

I bathed Blue but he fidgeted a lot when I was drying him with the hair dryer. In the end I took him outside in the sun and finished drying him and brushing his coat. We had been invited to a friend's house for the best crepes in the world and he was coming with us. There is not much of him when he is wet.

Not only did we have a wonderful feast of crepes, fruit salad and other lovely fillings, we were entertained watching Blue and Mimi the Bengal kitten meet each other for the first time. He had just woken up so initially sat very patiently as Mimi came closer. Their noses came within six inches of each other even though Mimi fluffed up her tail. Blue patiently sat wagging his tail non stop. I think they will become playmates after a few more visits.

Tilly came looking for the knitting bag after she ate her dinner. We feel bad about leaving her at home each time we take Blue for an outing, but she doesn't hold any grudges. She was outside on her harness but Blue pulled on her lead and she wriggled out of the harness - a good lesson for us that she needs her harness a lot tighter or needs a different style of harness. Fortunately she stayed at groud level and we caught her easily.
