Saturday Activities
This morning we walked to Cafe Alfons on Chevron Island. Blue walked about half the journey. We had breakfast with a couple of friends. Dogs are allowed at the outside tables but we were told Blue is not permitted to sit on laps - it was cold so it was lucky I had taken a blanket for him we put on the ground. Where ever we go he puts smiles on the faces of strangers. So many people comment that he looks like a teddy bear. Two women at the next table showed me photos of their poodles and they looked like they had been groomed ready for a show. I can't see Blue ever looking like that!
I finished the Bushtracker access door job. I removed the rest of the old sealant, cleaned the area with turps and was just squeezing the new sealant onto the back of the frame when Anita came to watch. It was a good thing she was there as I needed some extra chux cloths, soapy water and tools I hadn't anticipated I would need to clean off the excess sealant. That side of the van was in the sun so the sealant was setting quickly. She made a few trips inside for me and the job was done. We can test it another day with the hose to see if it is now water tight.
Yesterday we had seen material at Spotlight that was suitable for making covers for our caravan seat cushions, so I measured how much was needed and went back to the store. It was only $6 per metre, one third of its original price. I need to remove the clearance label as the washing instructions are underneath. The material is tubular rib cotton that is very stretchy. On the roll it is only 33cm wide, so 66cm in diameter. I fitted it over the largest cushion which is over 120cm around the four sides. I sewed one end only, hoping to be able to just fold the other end under to make it easy to remove the covers for washing. Having the new sewing machine made this job very easy as it has functions for stretch material and special needles for knitted fabric came with the machine. Tilly came to investigate in her matching red collar.
I also went back to Bunnings wanting some plastic sheeting to block the wind that comes through gaps around our clear blind on the bedroom veranda. I settled on a $28 sheet of clear Suntuf mini orb that I cut in half lengthwise, then trimmed to fit around brackets. This was a fairly simple job and all gaps are now covered. The temperature on the veranda is the same as inside the house, or warmer when in the sun. In summer we will just roll up the blind and store the mini orb sheets.
Both of our critters are very quiet, but this has some disadvantages. We wasted 20 minutes looking for Tilly who had slipped into my sewing room without me seeing her. We wouldn't be able to hear her even if she cried as her meow is so quiet. Blue occasionally barks quietly, but only when playing with Tilly. So far he is not a little yapping dog - he must know that would not be tolerated in this house! The downside to him being so quiet is that he doesn't let us know when he needs to go to the toilet.
