Completed Projects

This morning I decided we needed a more permanent barrier to stop our little ones falling over the balcony or down the stairs so headed off to Bunnings. I left it too late as there was a queue of about 20 people lined up outside. I thought how long it could take for 20+ people to go through the checkout and decided to explore other options. The pet shop around the corner from Bunnings so I went there and found a folding pet enclosure we can use when back on the road in the Bushtracker.

The panels allow light into our room and look much better than my cardboard barricade. The gate is made from 6 interlocking plastic panels designed to be used for car parking areas. When used this way the panels are laid on the ground and covered with soil and grass. I first saw them at Ferry Road Markets where they are used as decoration in vertical walls. One day I may use them for this but in the meantime we mostly use them to store shoes on the floor of our wardrobe as they help air flow.

This afternoon I spent a ridiculous amount of time refitting door handles that have been off for about 6 years. When I started this project I remembered why it had never been finished! I cleaned and lubricated the fittings, but 2 screws had heads too large for the holes they are supposed to sit in. Down in the garage I drilled these holes larger, filed off the rough edges and cleaned away the filings. Anita had to hold the handle in place on one side of the door while I fitted the other - sounds easy but the original installer had drilled the hole into the side of the door out of alignment which made the whole project a pain in the arse! When it came to fitting the striker plate on the door jamb, I discovered it was filled with paint so had to scrape and chisel away paint and some timber to get the plate to fit. Gaps around these fittings have been filled and I will sand and paint when I have several door painting jobs ready.

It was another entertaining day watching Tilly and Blue play together. Unfortunately he vomited up his lunch and has been very subdued since then and is not interested in dinner. This photo was taken just after they had finished playing a game that I managed to capture in a video. Unfortunately it is too large to post but I took a still from the video showing Tilly being crazy while Blue just keeps playing with the toy.
