Shopping and More Jobs
We were at Coles just before 7am to replenish our supplies. Unfortunately Australians are not good at queuing so we stood back and waited for a group of people to form a funnel shape at the entrance, resulting in the physical distance between each shopper reducing to way less than 2m. After passing through the old folks checkpoint a staff member was pointing us to hand sanitiser. We were happy to use it but I told her she was standing too close to the table to allow customers access to the bottle without being less than one metre from her. As well as essentials we bought some flowers to brighten up our house on this dull day.
At 7.30am there were no customers at the butchers or the coffee shop so we were able to buy some meat not available in coles and pick up a caffeine hit, all purchases achieved with a wave of the credit card. Back home we resumed our cleaning and house maintenance jobs. It takes me about an hour to remove two hinges from the bifold doors, clean off the old paint using a blade and fine steelwool, touch up the paintwork on the door, then replace the hinges. They are made from aluminium so I can't be too aggressive with them. If this job suggests I am OCDC, it hasn't been done in the six years since our house was painted, and wouldn't be done if we weren't staying at home complying with virus rules.
Cleaning the windows in our house is also not straightforward - we have to take down the blinds, unscrew the flyscreens to clean them and get access to the windows, clean the window surrounds and tracks full of dust from the summer dust storms, clean the inside of the windows, lubricate the winder and chain on the awning windows, then put the screens and blinds back. We want to finish cleaning the inside of all windows before the window cleaners come to do the outside hopefully next week. We may as well enjoy having clean windows while spending so much time at home.
We have also had time to learn to use features of our TV and sound system that we have not previously used or missed. Today's achievement was connecting Anita's phone to the Bose sound bar. I was having a break contemplating a detailed knitting project when Anita decided to play Melissa Etheridge while she cleaned the bifold doors. Melissa is not my favourite artist so I suggested she play her music when I am downstairs in the garage! Fortunately we have lots of music we both enjoy.
I persuaded Anita to agree to getting a new puppy. This picture shows the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mother and her litter. One of those is hopefully going to be mine but I don't know which one she is. The father is a poodle so the pup will be a Cavoodle. Friends on Aussie Road Crew had a lovely girl from this breeder so I did some research and found she has a long history of breeding healthy dogs. Our house feels empty with no cats or dogs. One interesting outcome of the virus lock down in New York is that the animal shelters have virtually been emptied as people are choosing to foster animals during their period of enforced staying home.
