Wandering Around Winton
We started the day at the Winton Pool, taking turns to sit with Bluey. There is plenty of green grass outside the pool fence and in the centre islands of the main street, Elderslie Street. Tilly was left in the Bushtracker with the air con running, while I monitored the temperature in the van remotely.
Breakfast at the Musical Fence Cafe was not brilliant but they were contending with lots of customers. We wandered along the stalls set up on the roadside, which is now declared to be a "shopping mall" for the purposes of Covid check-in requirements. I carried Blue to make sure he wasn't tempted to eat camel shit off the road - not an attractive sight outside food stalls.
The Council sent an officer to see us about the lack of power fiasco, placating those affected with a $50 voucher to spend at the Spar supermarket which is already suffering shortages. There was no milk in town on Monday and the first delivery was yesterday afternoon. It was all gone by the time we went shopping today. I liked the sign insisting customers wear a mask.
We all went to see the Bushwackers concert at the Shire Hall. I wasn't imagining it was hot in there yesterday as an announcement was made today the air con is not working. It was still better than sitting in the open air at the Festival Event Centre in 34° heat. It was a fun energetic show. This is 20 year old Gabi Blissett who was on tour with us on Aussie Road Crew last year.
We retreated to our air conditioned vans for a couple of hours. Tilly wanted to go out even though it was hot. She doesn't walk with me, but follows closely. I leave her yellow ribbon attached, which I grab to stop her going under buildings where there might be snakes. She went into the equestrian arena and I thought she was going to walk around the jump pole, but she stepped over it - definitely easier than jumping.
I came to the main festival arena to hear Sarah Storer sing with her brother Greg. As it was near sunset I walked across to see the most famous Winton sign.
