Vet and Pet Shop

We had a 9am vet appointment for Blue at Nuriootpa. His ear problem has cleared up OK, and the vet expressed his anal glands. These two issues are common in small dogs such as toy poodles, and are issues we have never encountered in bigger hounds. I have seen this particular vet before with one or both of Max or Coco and she is very thorough and personable - not offended by Blue shying away from her.

Anita had booked a haircut so I wandered around Aldi for a while and bought a pair of warm long socks intended for motorcycle riders. I stayed with the critters cleaning Bushtracker windows while Anita indulged in buying half the goods available in the wonderful co-op supermarket.

I took Blue, Hugo and our friends to the pet shop at Angaston. We needed dry puppy food and a new lead for Blue and a warm coat for Tilly. As we were leaving a huge German Shepherd squeezed into the small shop. He was lovely and very keen to greet Blue who was not so enthusiastic about this encounter.

There are some wonderful old buildings in this area. The old Chevrolet garage is opposite the vet. Unfortunately it doesn't look like these vehicles are being restored. The old Ampol pumps are probably quite valuable now that Caltex service stations are all being rebranded as Ampol. In 1936 the Australian Motorists Petrol Company was formed and listed on the stock exchange in 1948 as Ampol Petroleum. Ampol merged with Caltex in 1995 and traded as Caltex, but now the outlets are changing their name back to Ampol.

I took Blue for his first visit to an off leash dog park. There were two bigger dogs running around so he stayed close to me. One woman had a white toy poodle that had been sold to her as a red poodle the same as Bluey. She told me his colour washed away when he had his first bath! Apparently a couple of dozen poodles had been dyed and sold as reds at a higher price than whites. Another woman was staying close to the fence as she had previously been knocked over by running dogs and suffered a badly broken leg.

We all drove back to Angaston to eat at 40s Cafe which serves Australia's best pizzas. I'm not sure how current this title is but the pizzas were excellent. The cafe is built onto an historic flour mill.

I took a couple of photos up the main street. The large tree is an Australian white cedar, otherwise known as an Indian bead tree.
