Port Adelaide
On Sundays there is a farmers' market at the showgrounds so we walked there for coffee, eggs and vegetables. We then did a couple of loads of washing. The machines in the laundry operate on credit cards, much better than us scrounging for coins that are used in older machines.
I was keen to have a good look around Port Adelaide so we headed there with our friends. The drive took a lot longer than expected as one of the bridges is closed and the detour signs were totally inadequate. We scored a car park under the shade of a tree opposite the Commercial Hotel. Anita and friends parked themselves there for a beer while I explored this lovely historic precinct. The first photo is of my favourite structure, protected by the National Trust. The tower is part of this building.
I found a coffee shop busy serving about 10 Border Force Officers in uniform. The shop closed after my order for a hot chocolate. Some of the nearby buildings are occupied by barristers and solicitors, which explains the name of the cafe - LLaw.
We headed back to the caravan park as Sundowners had been arranged for 5pm around a fire. I bought some kindling at Bunnings, but when we arrived back at camp we discovered firewood is available in one of the horse stables. This really is a well planned and run park. When the Adelaide Show is on part of the caravan park area is used for temporary horse stables, as old stables were demolished to construct the caravan park facilities. The clouds at sunset are above the pavilion in the main arena.
