Nuriootpa to Adelaide

It is just over an hour's drive from Nuriootpa to the Adelaide Showgrounds Caravan Park. We had to leave the caravan park at Nuriootpa by 10am and could not check-in at the Showgrounds until 2pm. We filled in an hour walking around the historic town of Gawler, famous for iron gates and fences. The third photo is the NAB, originally the National Australia Bank Limited. The bank opened in this Italianate style building in 1859 and has traded there continuously.

We tried to find Ikea over near Port Adelaide, but it seems google maps sent us to the wrong place so we gave up. At least we saw the historic buildings in the port area. We will have to go back when not towing a caravan.

The Showgrounds Caravan Park was built as a venue for Cirque du Soleil, but Covid 19 stopped the show from coming to town. In June the company filed for bankruptcy in Canada. There is an oval shaped gravel road which would have been where the huge tent pegs were banged into the ground. The Showgrounds decided to turn the area into a caravan park leaving the gravel road in place. We were given a decent bottle of South Australian wine on arrival - first time anything like that has happened!

Everything is new and we are very close to the city. Blue had a run on the main arena with a couple of other dogs. Developers have their eyes on this land but hopefully the caravan park survives. I like the old buildings and murals.

The sun came out and the temperature hit the 20s so Tilly was able to enjoy a walk without shivering.
