Last Day in Alice
Today was shopping day before we go to areas with fewer shops. Another Roadie is tagging along with us as she is also doing the SA tour. That make 5 women, 3 well behaved dogs and one very naughty cat. Tilly woke Anita several times during the night, and woke me when she knocked Blue's crate from the table onto the floor with poor Bluey inside.
We have been shopping at Coles but late today discovered the Woolworths complex is much nicer. Buying alcohol here involves showing photo ID to a police officer at the door, and again at the checkout. I spoke to one of the police officers and learned several people in town are banned from buying alcohol, and there are strict limits on the amount of alcohol that can be purchased in any one visit.
Anita and I went to the Desert Garden but did not go in - she was too tired to walk far and we wouldn't have spent much time there, so would not have got much benefit from the $30 seniors entry fee for each of us. Instead we drove for about 15 minutes to Simpons Gap. We could see the Gap from the carpark and it was a gentle 10 minute walk to the permanent waterway at the base of the Gap. The tessellated red quartzite is magnificent. Under the red rock there are smaller sections of pink granite. Today the light wasn't very good for photographs. It would be great to view the Gap at sunrise or sunset.
I have taken Tilly and Blue for walks around the caravan park. There is a grassed area for campers that is well shaded in the morning and is fenced on three sides. Tilly chases a piece of string for exercise, but aspires to hunt birds. Another couple in this park has a 5 year old cat travelling with them. Blue puts himself into his small crate when we are sitting outside.
