ARC Day 8 - Hanging Out At Midge Point
We took Blue for a run on the beach before breakfast. He runs from one to the other if called and the other person he is with says Go.
The tide goes out a long way leaving a wide expanse of sand - nowhere nearly as nice as Gold Coast beaches. Cyclone Debbie caused extensive damage here in March 2017. The caravan park owner showed me photos of the destruction. Our campsite was 2 feet under water. They had to close the park for 3 months to clean it up and repair the damage. These trees still on the beach were blown down in the cyclone.
We did the washing and cleaned the van while Blue and Tilly happily stayed in the pet enclosure I made for them. I had the awning out but took it down as the wind speed increased. Our site is in the shade for much of the day.
Kerry Brisbane offered to take photos of the Roadie pets on tour, even buying a black sheet to use as a backdrop. Blue and Tilly were very obliging and sat on the chair, unlike some of the other dogs - Tilly is the only cat on this trip.
Afterwards I carried her to the beach in her backpack and let her out on the sand. For the first time she followed me as she didn't want to be left there!
I pumped up the tyres on my scooter and road around Midge Point. There is not much to see! There is a "resort" 8kms away. This golf resort was built by Japanese investors in 1992 but has had a chequered history. It is now owned by Chinese interests but little has been done to improve the place. I will see if we can drive past tomorrow for a look see.
