ARC Day 5

We were up at 5.30am to pack up and drive to Gladstone in rain and mist. A worker crawled under the Bushtracker and adjusted the hot wheel. We stayed in Gladstone driving around after the wheel cooled down to see if that problem was fixed. Anita took this photo as we drove past the powerhouse.

It was so early I could drive through the mall towing the van and park a 2 minute walk away from the Light Box Cafe where I ordered take away breakfasts. This great mural caught my attention. Unfortunately the food was awful even though this place gets great reviews. My bread-like ham and cheese croissant was filled with thick loaf ham and a slice of processed cheese!

The brakes are much better but one wheel still gets warmer than the others. We arrived at the Barracrab caravan park about 3pm, with lots of roadworks stops. The road surface is very rough and I was astonished to see the speed limit increase from 100 to 110kph. We haven't explored our surroundings yet but I took a couple of photos of the area.

I did a load of washing and drying after setting up the van. Our site has a small hill so we are parked askew but others had sites with very difficult access. The young couple opposite have a kelpie named Tilly so that is the second Tilly dog we have met this week.

Anita has not slept well because our last campsite was beside the Bruce Hwy and the trucks kept waking her up. I am concerned it will be trains tonight as we are within 100m of the track.

As we gathered for tonight's concert a string of satellites passed overhead. Apparently they were launched by Elon Musk as part of a SpaceX program to provide internet connections around the world to raise money for exploring Mars. They look like a string of glow worms and are a bit spooky.  My photo was no good so I downloaded this one from Forbes.

These are two of Kerry Brisbane's photos from last night.
