ARC Day 12 - Richmond

We spent the day in Richmond, first walking through the small town. There is a fabulous butcher where Anita bought a few meals for us. There are a few older motels but the new one attached to the Shell service station has been full both nights we have been here. One of the two supermarkets is some distance away from the other shops and it is hard to see how it survives.

The area is known for fossils and has these crazy statues on Kronosaurus Korner. I prefer the statue of the horse and rider.

Signs around town indicate sites where there used to be a cordial factory or a hotel or some other historic building, but they have burned down. The Catholic church appears to be the only surviving timber building.

The bougainvilleas growing in the centre median strip provide much needed colour. The old house in the background is typical of most in town.

The caravan park is council owned. It was being managed by contractors who wanted to close it down when Covid struck, but some of the under employed council workers said they would run it and they are doing a great job. There is a lake with a free water park on the foreshore. At least 20 brown kites were hanging around but I couldn't see what they hoped to eat. I let Blue paddle at the edge of the lake, then gave him a much needed bath.

We had a group photo taken by Kerry Brisbane using her drone because we were spread out due to social distancing. She showed me how to operate her $3,000 drone so I am inspired to try again with my $100 model.
