Beef Willy
At the markets yesterday we bought Blue a bag of gourmet biscuits and a beef willy. These are otherwise known as bully sticks but are in fact dried bull penises. I gave it to Blue this morning but he didn't really know what to do with it. He sat looking at it for a while but as soon as Tilly wanted it he decided it must be good and chased her away. These antics went on for much of the day. Late in the afternoon I realised they were both missing and all was quiet so went searching for them. Blue was in Tilly's bed in the bedroom and she was lying nearby. This had never happened before - they tend to stay with us in the main living area. It made sense after I found the beef willy under Blue inside Tilly's bed - he doesn't really want it but doesn't want her to have it either.
Anita and I spent some time getting the caravan ready. We connected the power and water to make sure everything works and there are no leaks. It is over seven months since these have been checked and we didn't want to discover problems once we were on the road. When we opened the generator box there was water in the bottom and the generator wouldn't start - we should have put it in the garage when we came home last December! That is now in for a service. On the way home I tried to buy a 10 litre metal jerry can to carry diesel. I don't want 20 litre jerry cans as they are too heavy, both in terms of lifting them up and weight on the van. Tomorrow I will make some phone calls to track one down now I know the ones I want are not widely available.
I took Blue and Tilly to the vet this morning - he was due for a heart worm vaccination and Tilly has had black crusty mucus in her nose. As she has no other symptoms the vet suggested we just keep an eye on this and hope she gets better at washing her own face. We clean her eyes every day otherwise she will get brown tear stains. I bought enough preventative medication for our trip away and confirmed Blue should have a muzzle if we go near any areas where 1080 dog baits have been laid. The problem might be finding the right type in a small size for him.
