Busy Day

Our electrician Ashley came back today to fit a light over the new location for our rubbish bins. He then secured the framing for our large flyscreen on the front veranda. These flyscreens are pulled very tight and the bottom rail was being lifted from the timber/cement sheeting it is screwed on to. The screws have presumably let water penetrate as far as the timber which is only treated pine, so the screws are not held securely. It is not perfect but will do until the flyscreen is replaced. Once that is cut out I will be able to take off the rail and fill all of the holes, then secure it after filling the holes with silicone so no more water will be able to penetrate.

Next Ashley painted the front of the house above the line we had been able to reach. He started on the western wall but I need to buy more paint ready for when he returns next week. I got the job of cleaning the paint brush and roller!

After running around after Ashley I created a spray booth in the gatehouse. I used old cardboard cartons to protect the boxes in there. The handles from our bar-b-que are a solid alloy that is corroding due to exposure to the salt air. I also found some very old but substantial L brackets that I think came from our house in Brisbane. After treating them with rust converter I am using a spray can containing etch primer. I used this once in the garage and the fumes were terrible, hence the use of the gatehouse.

We walked to our local restaurant for dinner but were a bit disappointed with our meal. We ordered dishes we have had before, but there is a new chef and the flavours were different to what we were expecting and not as good as we remembered.

Last night Blue was sleeping under the dining table. Tilly went and lay across him and gave him a good clean. He tolerated this attention very well then fell back to sleep.
