Visitors for Dinner

Last night Blue put himself to bed in his crate and didn't whimper when I zipped him in - great progress!. Unfortunately he needed to go outside at 5am but that is one of the downsides of getting a puppy instead of a house trained adult dog. Our Coco came to us as an adult dog and he had behavioural issues we had to constantly manage.

I discovered the source of a leak in our Bushtracker bathroom is the damaged sealant around the outside door. I need to buy some marine grade sealer to fix that problem. It is disappointing having to deal with issues like this given our van is only three years old and cost a small fortune to buy. There are several fittings on the roof so hopefully the sealant around those is sound.

The garage is getting organised but I have ended up with about 20 empty plastic tubs simply by sorting like with like - a job that is about 20 years overdue! When we moved to the north coast of NSW in 2000, I took lots of timber and hardware left over from renovating my Federation house in Annandale. I accumulated more after renovating our house at Palmers Island, and more still after lifting and renovating our Brisbane house. This is the first opportunity I have had to spend time sorting out what I can use and what I might try to sell. My priority will be to use some of these materials to build a decent workbench in the garage. It will need to be easy to move as we have to keep one side of the garage available for a vehicle when we eventually are able to travel overseas.

I gave Blue a bath and blow dry today. He didn't mind the warm bath but was a bit freaked out by the hair drier. I rested it on a bench so I had two hands available to hold him in the towel. I left it running on low and moved him in and out of the flow of warm air till he was dry. Now he is like a little fluff ball.

Tilly has had a fairly quiet day so far by her standards. She seems more settled but keeps wanting to go exploring. I let them both play downstairs this morning so they wouldn't wake Anita. Tilly discovered our cloth-covered lounge suite and kept me busy stopping her from using it as a scratching pad.

We haven't been walking for the past week, but I braved a dip in our pool. The water temperature was 29 degrees but the wind was cold, at least by Gold Coast standards. With lower overnight temperatures the pool cover struggles to retain the heat. Before I could get in I had to remove debris from our neighbour's Golden Rain tree. This is a noxious weed because they have seed flower pods that can be carried in the wind and sprout very easily.

Blue was excited to have a brief visit by two of our neighbours. Just as they left our friends arrived with their 15 year old Toy Poodle-terrier cross. This was Blue's first opportunity for socialisation with another dog (who is fully vaccinated). They both behaved very well, but Blue was probably disappointed his new pal is no longer interested in running games.

Just as our friends were getting ready to leave we discovered water flowing into the cupboard under our kitchen sink. As we emptied the leaking blocked sink we realised we were simply putting the water back into the leaking sink! We emptied the cupboard and soaked up the water with old towels, but I was concerned water had seeped under the cupboards so we removed the kick boards (easier said than done but we got them off). There was water under the cupboard but the subfloor is composite board so no water is likely to have leaked through that level. I know what I will be doing tomorrow!
