Day 32 - Breakwater

There was light rain during the day so we stayed put in our van reading and researching our trip to Japan in a few months. The rain eased this afternoon so I walked out along the breakwater. The sea was very calm but still an unappealing brown colour.

There are good views of Fort Scratchly and Nobbys Head which are linked by another breakwater that is covered by vegetation. The original 1800s link was a pier. After the breakwater was built sand accumulated on the eastern side forming Newcastle's Nobbys Beach.

Several people were fishing from the Stockton breakwater and some were careless about disposal of their bait and other fish waste.

Feral cats live among the breakwater rocks and are fed and given water by locals. This one is very cute.

We had "wine time" with Chris and Neen and two other friends staying at this caravan park. Our neighbour is a Scot who travels to jobs from Victoria. He replaces slate roofs on historic buildings.
